The N5 Educare part-qualification is the second step towards completing the full N4-N6 Educare programme. This comprehensive programme covers all the fundamentals of childcare, including child development, health and safety, and early childhood education. With a focus on practical, hands-on learning, this course will provide you with the skills you need to work with children between 0-5 years of age. Completing all three levels successfully also gives you the opportunity to convert your National Certificate to a National N Diploma at NQF level 6, provided that you have evidence of 18 months’ practical experience!

Assessment information:

  • 2 assignments per subject
  • 1 internal test per subject
  • 1 external examination per subject

Assessments will be allocated percentages which will be used to calculate a final mark. It will not contribute to your mark for the external examination set by the DHET. However, the final mark and the external examination mark are added together on a 40:60 basis. In other words, the final mark counts 40% and the examination mark counts 60% of the final promotion mark.

  • Students have 2 opportunities to write per academic year (June and November).
  • The DHET determines the application deadlines and timetables for each academic year.
  • Examinations are written at a DHET registered examination venue.

 

Exam qualifying criteria:

  • The student has submitted the application document and identity document to Optimi College.
  • The student has met the minimum criteria for exam entry (minimum of 50%) obtained in each assignment.

* A total of 18 months practical training within the childcare industry is required to obtain the National Diploma. Students must submit the work-based logbook as evidence.

Our study material and textbooks are included in the total course fee, so you do not have to worry about sourcing your own textbooks. We will send you all the necessary study material to complete the course. Material is sent via courier, at no additional charge when you reside in South Africa!
