A matric certificate is the last lap of your high school academic year. In South Africa, a matric certificate is a pivotal milestone in your educational journey and serves as a launchpad for career prospects. Often, a matric is the minimum requirement to get into higher educational institutions and other entry-level jobs.
Is there a difference between the National Senior Certificate and the Amended Senior Certificate?
Yes. The NSC is awarded at the end of your grade 12 by Umalusi and follows the CAPS curriculum while the ASC is obtained outside of high school and is only open to persons over the age of 21. Another key difference is that with an NSC, your exam mark makes up 75% of your overall score and the other 25% is from the internal assessments done through the year whilst with an ASC it’s a self-study programme and the exam mark counts towards 100% of your passing score.
Who is eligible for entry into the Amended Senior Certificate programme?
No matter how long ago it may be since you were last in school, it’s never too late to complete your matric. This is your second chance to obtain your ASC at Optimi College. We offer subjects in Afrikaans, English, isiZulu, Setswana, Business Studies, Geography, History, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematics and Mathematical Literacy.
If you would like to take advantage of this second chance, here’s what you will need to qualify for an ASC:
- A General Education and Training Certificate (GETC); OR
- A Grade 9 or Standard 7 school report; AND
- You must be 21 years and over with an incomplete NSC or ASC.
